Down by 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Orlando Magic knew that their playoff hopes were in danger. But Terrance Ross wasn’t going to let those hopes disappear. Ross scored 12 points in the fourth and Evan Fournier hit big shots in both regulation and overtime as the Magic defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 123-119 on Friday Night.
Ross, who finished the game with 31 points, hit 3 of his 6 three point shots in opening few minutes as the Magic closed the lead to 2 points at 99-97. DJ Augustin (20 points) scored 7 straight points to get to tie the game and both teams traded baskets until Fournier’s layup with 17.7 seconds left in the 4th quarter tied the game and sent it into overtime.
In the overtime period, Nikola Vuecvic‘s layup with 35.5 seconds left gave the Magic a three point lead at 121-118. Memphis Tyler Dorsey, playing for the injured Mike Conley Jr, was fouled by Jonathan Issac behind the three point line with 24.3 seconds left. After making the first free throw, he proceeded to miss the final 2 and Fournier knocked down 2 more free throws to make the final score.
Dorsey finished with 29 points and Jonas Valanciunas had 23 points and 24 rebounds as the Grizzlies have fallen to 29-43 on the season.
Orlando has now pulled with in 1 game of the Miami Heat for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Their next game will be on Monday night at home against the Philadelphia 76ers.
