Free Agent Rankings- Shooting Guard

With NBA Free Agency less than 60 days away, lets take a look at who will be some of the names that your favorite team could consider adding this summer.

The Shooting Guard position in this year’s free agency has 3 current All-Stars, a former MVP and a few other names that could potentially see contract offers in July. So lets take a look at how I rank the upcoming free agent class.

  1. Jimmy Butler- Philadelphia 76ers- Unrestricted- Player Option
  2. Klay Thompson- Golden State Warriors- Unrestricted
  3. Terrence Ross- Orlando Magic- Unrestricted
  4. J.J. Redick- Philadelphia 76ers- Unrestricted
  5. Jeremy Lamb- Charlotte Hornets- Unrestricted
  6. Danny Green- Toronto Raptors- Unrestricted
  7. Rodney Hood- Portland Trail Blazers- Unrestricted
  8. Wesley Matthews- Indiana Pacers- Unrestricted
  9. Allonzo Trier- New York Knicks- Restricted- Team Option
  10. Tyreke Evans- Indiana Pacers- Unrestricted

Observations:

Butler and Thompson will set the market for shooting guards both getting near to maximum contracts in July. I don’t expect Thompson to be in another jersey next season. Butler should stay in Philadelphia, but the Lakers, Clippers, Knicks, Nets or even the Miami Heat could be in the mix for his services.

Ross will be an interesting one to watch. He had his best season of his career and could get a $15-18 million a year deal. But he is at his best when he’s coming off the bench instead of being a full time starter. Will a team be willing to able to pay for him to be a sixth man?

Redick will get paid because of his skill set as a shooter, Lamb will be one of the hottest names on the board after the big names are signed. Don’t think that Green and Hood won’t get substantial deals as well. The only player on the list that won’t hit the market will be Trier, who the Knicks should retain by picking up his player option.

Honorable Mention:

  • Alec Burks- Utah Jazz- Unrestricted
  • Wayne Ellington- Detroit Pistons- Unrestricted
  • Austin Rivers- Houston Rockets- Unrestricted
  • Justin Holiday- Memphis Grizzlies- Unrestricted
  • Kentavious Caldwell-Pope- LA Lakers- Unrestricted
