The Orlando Magic ended their preseason on Thursday night falling to the Miami Heat by the score of 107-98. Jimmy Butler lead the Heat with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Orlando ended their preseason with a 3-3 record.
Butler finished 9 for 14 from the floor and was able to take advantage of the holes in the Orlando defense all game long. He did most of his damage in the third quarter as he scored 13 of his points during the quarter where the Heat outscored the Magic by 10.
The good news for Magic fans is that Nikola Vucevic, Evan Fournier and Terrance Ross all returned to the lineup on Thursday night. This was the first time since the Atlanta game, that Orlando had it’s full collection of players. Having those guys back in the lineup made a difference as the Magic avoided another slow start and was up by a point at halftime.
“So there were some good stretches I think, particularly in the first half and at the end of the third quarter. Their defense in the third quarter was good- the difference in the game, they forced turnovers and they scored off them and that’s when the game more swung their way.”Magic Head Coach Steve Clifford on the team’s performance
After going up 59-52 early in the third quarter, the Heat went on a 18-4 run led by Butler. During that three minute stretch, Butler and Duncan Robinson (17 points) combined for 15 points and the Heat never trailed after that. During that same period, Orlando had missed 3 shots, had 3 shooting fouls and committed 2 turnovers.
Orlando will opening up their 2019-2020 season on Wednesday night at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7pm.
